The work indicates that the surface of TiO 2 (1 1 0) rutile single crystal behaves differently form that of TiO 2 (1 0 1) anatase in the photoreaction of ethanol (and probably other oxygen containing hydrocarbons) by switching the reaction products from dehydrogenation to C C bond dissociation.

Abstract In this work we present an overview of the photo-reaction of ethanol over the surface of TiO2 (110) single crystal under photo-excitation and compare it to that over Au/TiO 2 nano-particle.
